THE TAKAOKA CASTING WORKSHOP

This fourth-generation workshop began as a relatively small operation, focused primarily on making Buddhist ritual objects, Japanese tea sets, and vases – all made of luxe brass and bronze in the city of Takaoka. And for the past century, the Nousaka family has carved a name for themselves as the destination for beautiful, artful metal pieces.

With skills that have been passed down from generation to generation, this workshop houses 60 artisans committed to keeping this time-honored craft alive. From creating sand molds to casting to the finishing process, each step is treated with such precise care. And the result is some of the most beautiful brass accent pieces we’ve ever seen.

And there’s nothing “mass” about even the tiniest piece, like the incense holder featured in our collection. That alone takes ten days to complete – a true testament to the artistry this group is known for.
