Origen

In Peru, the poncho, like the chullo, is a garment used daily by a large majority of the population. It is a garment that is part of Peru's tradition. The poncho in Peru serves as protection against rain and cold, which is why it is made from sheep, alpaca, or vicuña wool.

There are many theories about the origin of the word "poncho." One theory suggests that it is a Castilianization of the Quechua word "punchu," which means the same thing. Quechua is the language of the Incas and of the majority of indigenous communities in Peru.

The poncho is an important part of Andina World's collection, because of the importance that it represents in the Peruvian Andes.
And instead of being a closed piece with only one opening in the center to pass the head through (the traditional poncho design), this poncho is open, allowing it to be wrapped around the neck while still using the traditional material, which is alpaca.

I hope that each Andina World piece adds warmth and beauty to your home and outfit for years to come and that you find a truly unique, one-off handmade piece.

Alpaca is een natuurlijke vezel. Het is zachter, sterker en warmer dan merino en cashmere. Alpacateelt is duurzaam. Alpaca's lopen vrij rond en worden één keer per jaar geschoren. Alpaca vezels kunnen tientallen jaren meegaan en zullen aan het einde van hun levensduur vanzelf biologisch afbreken.
