Handwoven in Peru

Regular price CHF 132.90

Our handmade oversized scarf is crafted from 100% undyed baby alpaca wool, that is processed into a fine yarn after the alpacas have been combed out. This undyed state, guarantees the garment an absolute softness and comfort, thanks to the absence of any chemical dyeing process. Produced in small batches and meticulously handloomed in our artisans' workshop in Peru, each scarf takes up to 2 full days to be completed, reflecting our slow fashion philosophy. Our handlooms operate without the use of electricity, allowing us to create these scarves in harmony with the environment and using timeless techniques.

Once the scarf is woven, our artisans meticulously add unique details- dedicate baby alpaca fiber incrustations, carefully hand-selected before the fiber is being spun into a yarn and carefully positioned by hand on the scarf. This rare technique allow us to incorporate alpaca fibers in their natural form. These final touches make each scarf a distinctive expression of craftsmanship and tradition .

A curious and interesting fact: The term "baby alpaca" wool refers to the wool fiber that comes from the first shearing of an alpaca, and not to the age of the animal itself. The first shearing is done when the alpaca reaches adulthood at the age of 3 years old. This makes baby alpaca fiber exceptionally fine and soft, making it a highly valued material for high-quality garments Do you want to know more about de design of this scarf? When I was little, and there was no power at night, my siblings and I would look at the starry sky. Inspired by my childhood and that starry sky, I decided to design this scarf.

The length of the scarf represents the Peruvian sky (long and wide), and the inlays of alpaca fiber represent the stars. The material used is baby alpaca wool because it is an exceptionally fine and soft fiber, just like the memories I have of that Andean starry sky.

IMade of 100% Peruvian alpaca wool and handwoven by Alberto and the community of weavers in Puno-Peru. We strive to improve the life of the artisans and indigenous communities from Perú and empower them to change their local communities for the better. By working closely with them, they are able to provide for their families and their communities

I hope that each Andina World piece adds warmth and beauty to your home and outfit for years to come and that you find a truly unique, one-of handmade piece.
