Handmade in Peru
Regular price €19,95A little piece of Peru, shaped by hand
This Palo Santo holder is handmade in Peru by a family of artisans whose knowledge of ceramics has been passed down from generation to generation. Each piece is shaped by hand and fired in a traditional, non-industrial kiln, keeping alive a way of making that is slowly disappearing in a world of mass production.
The artisans' technique draws on the legacy of the pre-Columbian Vicús and Tallán cultures (Pre-Inca cultures), involving hand-molding the clay with a stone and a wooden paddle. The black-and-white finish is achieved through oxygen reduction during firing and the use of mango leaves to dye the piece black.
A beautiful Palo Santo holder, but also a piece with a story to tell.
How to use it: Choose a firm, heat-safe spot for your holder. Set the Palo Santo into its groove, allowing it to burn at a gentle angle. The ash will fall into the holder, when finished empty the ashes and clean the holder with a soft cloth. The holder is not suitable for dishwasher.
